Course Overview

If you are looking for work in any licensed establishment that has gaming machines and provides gambling services in NSW, it is a government requirement for you to have completed a Liquor and Gaming NSW approved RCG training course for you to work in the industry. The RCG course helps to promote safety (harm minimisation) in venues where there are gaming machines, including how to recognise gambling problems and addiction.

The RCG course covers a range of topics, including:

  • problem gambling

  • harm minimisation

  • gambling laws

Course duration is 6 hours, delivered in classroom (face to face) format on behalf of Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW).

Who should complete the RCG training

RCG training is mandatory if your work duties involve gaming machines. RCG training applies to:

  • licensees of a full hotel licence

  • secretaries of a registered club

  • staff with gaming machine duties

  • staff who pay out winnings

  • staff who patrol or serve in the gaming machine area.

Certification and competency card

You will need to successfully complete the activities in the NSW RCG Participant Workbook during the face to face class, and an additional online assessment which is managed by Liquor and Gaming NSW in your own time.

  • Once the workbook has been completed, students will receive an automated email from Liquor and Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) with a link and instructions on how to complete the new RCG online assessment. This will need to be completed on an appropriate device in your own time and should be completed as soon as possible.

  • The online assessment has 30 questions comprising scenario-based, multiple choice and True/False questions.  No free-text responses are required.  Students require 100% to pass and may have unlimited attempts.  There is no time restriction to complete this assessment, however students must pass to receive their interim certificate to work in the industry.

  • On successful completion, students will receive an automated email from L&GNSW with an RCG interim certificate with instructions on how to obtain a RCG Competency Card or add the RCG competency to an existing RSA card.  The RCG Competency Card is obtained by visiting Services NSW and providing 100 points of identification.

  • The RCG Competency Card is not issued by Services NSW immediately – however, students  will be able to work in gaming related roles once the RCG Interim Certificate has been issued to them by Liquor and Gaming NSW.

Course Fees

The cost of this course is $160.00 (The fee for the photo-card is included in your training fee, you will have nothing further to pay to apply for your NSW RCG photo competency card).
