STUDENTS' RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

By signing the College registration form, students agree to follow College regulations. Students should read these instructions and familiarise themselves with College requirements.

It is a strict requirement of this college that Occupational Health and Safety regulations must be observed at all times.
Students will be advised by the trainer of assessment procedures and attendance requirements for all subjects at the commencement of their course of study.

The management of The Illawarra Business College reserves the right to ask any student to leave a class if that student is disruptive and interrupts the flow of the lesson.

Certificates will be issued to students only on satisfactory completion of the assessment and attendance requirements for each course.
Students are to be in attendance at class no later than class commencement time, and should not leave before class finishing time.

Failure to meet minimum attendance requirements may affect your ability to satisfactorily achieve course outcomes.

APPEALS, COMPLAINTS AND GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE
The College has a comprehensive complaints and appeals process.  Students wishing to lodge a complaint or appeal, should do so in writing using the prescribed forms.  For detailed information, please read our Student Complaints and Appeals policy.
ASSESSMENTS

Competency Based Training and Assessment

Competency based training focuses on developing skills and abilities that participants can demonstrate.
Competency based assessment is usually a combination of formal and informal activities such as reports, class tests or assignments.
Students must submit assessment work by the due date. If, for whatever reason, a student is not capable of completing an assessment on time, they must approach their trainer for an extension of time before the due date.

Lack of understanding, forgetfulness or insufficient time is not acceptable reasons for late submission of work and in such circumstances extensions will not be granted. Unless an extension of time is given, the outcome for the Unit of Competency will be ‘Not Yet Competent’.

Assessment Appeal

Students who wish to lodge an appeal against an assessment should lodge the appeal in writing using the prescribed form.  For detailed information, please read our Student Complaints and Appeals policy.

FLEXIBLE LEARNING
A flexible delivery subject is one where part or all of a subject is available to students in a pre-packaged form. This allows the student to study the subject without being in a conventional classroom situation. It also allows the student to complete subjects at their own pace.
Students will be advised by their trainers of the availability of flexible delivery subjects. Generally, students enrolling in such a subject will undertake some independent study using prepared materials as well as meeting with trainers to develop a better understanding.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING AND CURRENT COMPETENCIES

Students or prospective students may apply for course credit (which is also referred to as recognition of prior learning).  To apply, a written application needs to be made to the College with supporting evidence.

For more information about how to lodge an application for course credit, please read our Course Credit and RPL/RCC Policy.
