Participants in the Diploma of Children's Services course must have competencies in 11 modules from the Certificate III in Children’s Services or equivalent which are pre-requisites to this qualification. These competencies are listed on the course modules below.

Under the new NSW Children’s Services Regulation 2004 (Section 15 - 2e), Authorised Supervisors are required to successfully complete a course in child protection.  TIBC can offer accredited, nationally recognised Child Protection (CHCCHILD1C – Identify and respond to children and young people at risk of harm) training and assessment.

CHCCHILD1C – NATIONALLY ACCREDITED AND RECOGNISED

The CHCCHILD1C distance study and workshop programs will cover the following elements:

Implement work practices which support the protection of children and young people

This includes:

  • understanding the different forms of abuse - physical, sexual, emotional, neglect and domestic violence
  • recognising indicators, recognising risk factors in family situations etc
  • understanding the effect of abuse on children and young people
  • responding to disclosure in accordance with accepted standards and techniques
  • reviewing appropriate information gathering techniques
  • importance of confidentiality and understanding own level of responsibility. 

In NSW, if a person nominated for the position of Authorised Supervisor is a holder of the CHC50302 Diploma of Children’s Services from the CHC02 Community Services Training Package, they are required to have successfully completed the competency CHCORG14B - Manage a Service Organisation to be eligible for approval as an Authorised Supervisor Click here for details.
